PERIODIZATION FOR THE AVERAGE POPULATION

This is a very fancy high brow term that thousands of pages and very large textbooks are devoted to covering for the primary purpose to create elite olympic level training for the professional athlete.

However everyone needs Periodized Programming, and my job is to simplify this information to maximize the potential for the individual at any athletic level.

ALL SWEAT IS NOT EQUAL

Most people workout and all they are really concerned about is getting sweaty & getting a little bit sore, while these same people have very specific goals yet for some reason their training isn't specific at all, especially over time.  Would you play basketball everyday hoping to get better at Tennis?  Obviously not, however this is how many people approach their training.

WHAT IS PERIODIZATION?

This is how a training or nutrition program is structure and organized over Time.

The "Period" literally refers to the period of time the athlete/client is exposed to different stressors to their body, the accumulation of this stress, how they adapt to this stress, and then what they do after adaptation.

WHAT IS TRAINING STRESS?

  • Volume: Sets/Reps/Weight Lifted
  • Exercise Selection & Variation: How different movements effect Muscle, Skeletal, Connective Tissues & Cardiovascular Systems
